Job Title: Adult Basic Education Teacher – GED Focus and ESL
Location: Regional – Le Sueur, St. Peter, and Le Center (Fiscal Host: Le Sueur-Henderson Public Schools ISD 2397)
Reports To: ABE Program Coordinator / Community Education Director

Job Summary: Empower adult learners across the region to achieve their high school equivalency and career goals. This full-time position delivers targeted Adult Basic Education (ABE) instruction with a primary emphasis on General Educational Development (GED) preparation. The instructor will serve the Minnesota Valley Area Adult Learning Cooperative (AALC), leading in-person classes at regional sites in Le Sueur, St. Peter, Le Center, and Gaylord, as well as managing online distance learning sessions. All curriculum aligns with the Minnesota ABE Content Standards and the computer-based GED test framework.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Regional & Hybrid Instruction: Deliver high-quality lessons both in person at designated regional sites and via virtual platforms. Instruction covers all four GED subject areas: Mathematical Reasoning, Reasoning Through Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies.
  • Curriculum Alignment: Align daily lesson plans with the Minnesota ABE Academic Career and Employability Skills (ACES) framework and Northstar Digital Literacy standards.
  • Differentiated Learning: Adapt teaching methods to accommodate diverse learner backgrounds, levels, and learning styles across multiple physical sites and virtual classroom environments.
  • Assessment & Tracking: Administer and analyze standardized progress tests (such as CASAS or TABE) to monitor student gains and determine GED readiness.
  • Technology Integration: Utilize blended learning models to build students’ digital literacy skills required for the computer-based GED exam.
  • Student Support: Provide academic counseling, goal-setting assistance, and regular feedback to boost student retention and completion rates.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Licensure: Valid Minnesota Teaching License issued by PELSB (any field or K-12/secondary preferred).
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Education, Content Specialties, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 1–2 years teaching adult learners, specifically within an ABE or GED preparation program, is highly preferred.
  • Technical Savvy: Proficiency with learning management systems (LMS) and web conferencing tools (Google Meet) to manage online instruction seamlessly.
  • Travel Capability: Ability to travel reliably to scheduled class sites throughout the consortium region (Le Sueur, St. Peter, Le Center, and Gaylord). Mileage reimbursement is provided.

Work Schedule & Compensation

  • Position Type: Full-Time (1.0 FTE)
  • Format: Hybrid (In-person regional rotation and online delivery)
  • Travel Perks: IRS-rate mileage reimbursement offered for travel between regional sites.
  • Salary Range: Placement on the current Le Sueur-Henderson Education Association (LSHEA) Master Agreement Salary Schedule (determined by approved steps, degree lanes, and teaching experience as negotiated under the fiscal host contract).
